India and Cyprus relationship extended to Strategic partnership

In a major boost to the relationship between India and Cyprus the bilateral relation has been levelled up by the strategic partnership.

This is news because the the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodouli visited New Dellhi and signed some pacts such as For curbing Terrorism, defence cooperation and for better connectivity.

About Cyprus country

It is an island country strategically located on the mediterranean sea on the south of turkey and west of Lebanon and Seria which is a part of European Union.

Cyprus works as a buffer state between the European union and India which works as a mediator.

The capital of Cyprus is Nicosia ( the world’s divided capital).

The official language is Greek and Turkish .

The highest point in this is Mount Olympus.

The Cyprus is a premiere vacation destination bcoz of its mountain terrains and beautiful mediterranean beaches.

These two nations have deep strategic relationship, they both share a five year defence cooperation roadmap from 2026-2031.

They participate in maritime sequrity with Cyprus joining the Indo pacific initiative .

Further more the cross border terrorism counter and curbing infiltration.

Both have common history as both the countries were under colony and both were under non Allignment movement.

India has supported a lot for the independence of Cyprus .

India also helped on Turkish invasion of Northern Cyprus in 1974.

Cyprus is one of ten most foreign investment countries.

New opportunities to be given to the Indian companies in in Cyprus infrastructure, energy and agricultural sectors.

A significant focus of the visit was the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC). Cyprus has positioned itself as a key partner in this transformative initiative:Cyprus has formed a ‘Friends of IMEEC’ grouping within the EU

The country is offering transhipment facilities to address supply chain disruptions caused by the US-Israel war against Iran.


Both sides discussed establishing a Bilateral Connectivity Dialogue.
IMEEC is seen as transformational for global trade, connectivity, and prosperity.

Both nations emphasised promoting stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East
